Keynote speaker Dr. Lori Ross will be presenting on “Bisexuality: Addressing the ‘B’ in Health Care Contexts.” For the first time this year, we are also hosting a Hormone Replacement Training session and a poster session featuring LGBTQ+ health research. This year we’re doing something new and exciting by featuring poster presentations on LGBTQ health research — and we want YOU to send us abstracts!

The Sexuality and Gender Advocacy (SGA), with support from the Medical Student’s Association, would like to introduce a film screening of “The Danish Girl” followed by guest speakers including Dr. Justin Petryk, a Psychiatrist who works with transgender patients in the process of transitioning. Tickets will be $5 at the door.
This film portrays the true story of a painter named Einar Wegener who became the first person to undergo sexual reassignment surgery in 1931 and the struggles and accomplishments of the relationship with their wife throughout their journey.

Welcome to new year and a new conference!
The 2017 Inclusive Health Conference will be held at the Matrix Hotel in downtown Edmonton, and will be taking place on March 11, 2017. We are excited about the lineup of speakers that will be presenting and participating in panel discussions this conference. They include healthcare professionals, LGBTQ+ researchers, and patients within the community. A full list of confirmed speakers and scheduled talks can be found on this website (under the ‘Program’ tab).

Alberta Education recently released set of guidelines for schools to deal with LGBTQ students.
On April 19, two members of our clinical faculty pubished an anti-trans piece entitled “A Medical Response to Alberta Education’s Gender Diversity: Guidelines for Best Practices.”
